Are you interested in going “green”? It can be quite intimidating at first to work towards a green home as there is so much to learn about. However, you don’t need to do it all at once, and once you start transforming your home into a green home you’ll be amazed at how easy it really is. Not only is it easy, but there are many other benefits in living a “green” life. With that, here are 3 simple products for a green home that are cost effective and great ways to save money and help protect our environment.

The first of the products for a green home is a composter. A composter is a great thing to have because it will cut down on the amount of waste that you typically throw in the garbage. How we typically do it in our home is keep a large mixing bowl on the counter and throws things in it such as egg shells, banana peels, orange peels, etc. Anything that can de-compose we throw in this bowl. Then, once it fills up, we take it out to the composter. With the composter, we have seen our trash can become smaller and smaller, because things that would typically go in the trash is going into the composter now. As far as price, composters range in price, but you can probably get one for as little as $20.

The second of the products for a green home is energy efficient light bulbs. This can be quite an expensive thing to do all at once. If you have flood lights in your home, you can expect to pay about $8 for one light. In our case, we have 6 flood lights in our kitchen and a total of 12 throughout our home. That’s $96 in light bulbs! However, nothing says you have to replace all of your light bulbs at once. What we do is as one light goes out; we replace it with an energy efficient light bulb. Over the course of a year we’ve got about every light bulb in our home converted.

The final item in our products for a green home is a battery charger. Everybody uses batteries, and they are quite expensive. If you have kids, you know this more than anybody…Just think of the money you spent this past Christmas on batteries. These are simple to use, and have saved us more than once when the remote control batteries died. As with the other 2 products for a green home, these can be a little expensive initially, but after the initial expense, you’ll save money over the long run by not having to buy as many (or any) new batteries.

The above 3 products for a green home will save you money over the course using them. Not only will by less batteries and light bulbs, but in the case of the light bulbs, you’ll also save money on your electricity bill. Outside of the money savings, you’re also doing your part help protect our environment.
